Developer Lucas: “I love the direct contact with the client”

"As a developer, I enjoy solving problems. I might even prefer searching for a bug over developing a new feature. What makes my work at Teal extra enjoyable is the direct contact with the client. You hear what people need and can immediately put it into practice. We also get a lot of positive feedback — that feels great."

With a team of five, we developed the merit tool Youbo. Several clients are already using it. Recently, I also started working with my colleague Thomas Brouckaert on a project management tool commissioned by the chemical company Yara.

I enjoy giving demos. Few colleagues enjoy standing in front of an audience, but I like telling stories—even in my free time. I am a game master in Dungeons & Dragons, a role-playing game where players experience a story together. As Dungeon Master, I also stand before a group, creating a fictional world through storytelling and improvisation. I try to make it as immersive as possible, to keep everyone engaged. I draw inspiration from movies and books.

I ended up in IT by chance. For a moment, I considered business management, but my thesis quickly made me realize it wasn’t for me. A classmate decided to study Computer Science, and I followed. I enjoy working on the computer, but I’m not the kind of nerd who’s always chasing the latest trends and gadgets.

From day one at Teal Partners, I’ve felt like part of the team, even though I work as a consultant. Elsewhere, you may not be welcome at team buildings or parties, but at Teal, they make no distinction. That’s really nice.

Where do I want to be in 10 years? I have no idea. I’ll see what comes my way. As long as I can use my knowledge to mean something to others."

Lucas Berghs has been working at Teal Partners for 2 years. Curious what it’s like to work with us? Let’s have a chat.
